Orange alert issued for hail and thunderstorms in five Himachal districts

The Meteorological Center in Shimla on Thursday issued an orange alert for hailstorms, thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds in five districts of Himachal Pradesh for Friday, even as parts of the state continued to experience heatwave conditions.

According to the weather department, isolated areas in Kangra, Kullu, Mandi, Shimla, and Sirmaur districts are likely to experience adverse weather conditions, with wind speeds  from 40 to 60 kilometers per hour.  

Officials said dry weather has prevailed across the state since Wednesday evening. Heatwave conditions were reported in Una and Bilaspur districts during the day.

The Met Office has forecast a wet spell across Himachal Pradesh till June 3, indicating a likely change in weather conditions over the coming days.

Among recorded temperatures, Kukumseri remained the coldest place in the state overnight, with a minimum of 3.9 degrees Celsius. Una recorded the highest maximum temperature at 43.2 degrees Celsius.

The weather department has advised residents to remain cautious during the forecast period, particularly in areas vulnerable to strong winds and hailstorms.
