BJP national president Nitin Nabin will attend the International Day of Yoga programme at Lovely Professional University in Phagwara, Punjab, on June 21, with around 12,000 participants expected to take part in the event.

The programme will be organised around the “12-12-12” theme, marking 12 years of the International Day of Yoga, 12 years of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s global yoga movement and the participation target of 12,000 people.

This year’s International Day of Yoga is being observed under the theme “Yoga for Healthy Ageing”, highlighting the importance of yoga in promoting physical health, mental well-being, and a better quality of life across all age groups.

Rajya Sabha MP and Lovely Professional University Chancellor Ashok Kumar Mittal said the event aims to bring people together through yoga and promote the message of health, wellness, and inner balance.

“We aim to unite more than 12,000 individuals through yoga, sending a powerful message that health, wellness and inner balance can bring communities together and strengthen the nation,” Mittal said.

He added that the global recognition of yoga reflects Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of taking India’s ancient practice to the international stage.

“This year’s theme, ‘Yoga for Healthy Ageing’, reminds us that yoga has the power to enhance the quality of life at every stage of life. Through this celebration, we are encouraging people, especially the youth, to make yoga an integral part of their daily routine,” Mittal said.

The event will bring together students, faculty members, social leaders, youth, public representatives and citizens from across the region. Discussions on youth empowerment, education, skill development, Punjab’s development and other nation-building initiatives are also scheduled on the sidelines of the programme.

The celebration is expected to highlight the role of yoga in encouraging healthier lifestyles and community participation.
