MERA PIND 360 foundation launches Punjab Di Rooh SEWA Grant project

The pilot initiative aims to revive the spirit of community service while helping rural youth develop project planning skills and access new opportunities.

MERA PIND 360 Foundation has launched the Punjab Di Rooh SEWA Grant project to encourage a spirit of service among rural youth in Punjab. The pilot initiative is dedicated to the memory of S. Swarn S. Bhangu, the late husband of actress Gurpreet Bhangu, who was known for his selfless service to the society.

The announcement was made during a press conference at the Chandigarh Press Club. Malkeet Rauni outlined the objectives of the SEWA project and the wider mission of the MERA PIND 360 Foundation.

Bal Mukund Sharma explained the functioning of the foundation’s centres across rural Punjab. Several ancestral homes belonging to NRIs and affluent Punjabis have been converted into these centres to support the overall development of villagers.

The centres provide access to a book library, tools library and computer lab facilities for training in demand information technology skills. They also support efforts to improve farmers’ incomes, teach handicraft skills to women and organise remote webinars and seminars for awareness and knowledge building.

In addition, the centres run e-health check clinics and help villagers access various state and Central government services. Some overseas information technology work has also begun for young people trained at these centres.

Davinder S. Garcha said the Punjab Di Rooh SEWA Grant project has two key objectives. The first is to revive the spirit of serving others among the younger generation. The second is to help participants develop project-planning skills through the pilot program.

Foundation founder Bhupinder S. Hundal, who joined the gathering remotely from the United States, thanked those present and encouraged NRIs to revive their ancestral village homes and use them to serve local communities. He also offered support to those interested in establishing and running new centres.

Actor Pukhraj Bhalla and Shivinder Mahal were also present at the event.

The foundation said the SEWA project is intended to create greater opportunities for rural youth while strengthening community-based development initiatives across Punjab.
