The two accused arrested in connection with the murder of Manisha Mittal, director of Saraswati Paradise School in Bhattakufar, Shimla, were produced before the district court on Monday, where the court granted seven days’ police remand.

Court Number 5 of the District and Sessions Court, Shimla, ordered that both accused remain in police custody until June 22. They will be produced before the court again on the same date.

The accused were brought to the court amid tight security arrangements. Additional security personnel were deployed across the court premises during the hearing.

The police had sought a 10-day remand for both accused during the proceedings. However, the court approved seven days of police custody for further investigation.

According to officials, investigators will question the accused regarding the conspiracy behind the murder, the alleged mastermind, and the individual suspected of hiring the shooters. Police will also continue efforts to recover and examine the weapon used in the crime.

The Manisha Mittal murder case has attracted widespread attention in Shimla. Police had arrested both shooters from Rohtak in Haryana within 40 hours of the murder, which took place on June 13.

Investigators said the accused had travelled to Shimla in a Swift car bearing a registration number linked to Rohru. Police have already recovered the pistol allegedly used in the murder.

Preliminary investigations suggest that a property dispute is being considered as a possible motive behind the killing.
