From Amul’s corporate corridors to couture front rows, luxury fashion influencer, content creator and Zoom Delhi editor Roohi Baweja’s career has taken a rather stylish turn

Chandigarh, September 20

There are clothes we wear because we have to. And then there are clothes we remember.

The dress for the first job interview. The outfit chosen for an important presentation. That one favourite piece pulled out whenever we want to feel a little more confident. Clothes may seem trivial, but sometimes they become part of the memory.

Fashion, of course, takes the conversation a few steps further.

It was two years ago that Chandigarh resident Roohi Baweja stepped into fashion influencing. Today, she is a luxury fashion and lifestyle influencer, content creator and editor covering fashion and lifestyle for Zoom Delhi. Her calendar now includes couture weeks, luxury labels, boutique previews and fashion events, and this year, Chandigarh Times Fashion Week, where she hosted the event.

But hers is not a story that began on a catwalk.

Interior design and computers were part of her background. Then came Amul India, where she worked in administration and Human Resources (HR). From there, the road led somewhere rather different.

“I’ve always had a passion for fashion, travel and storytelling,” she says.

Perhaps the fashion part was waiting for its turn.

FDCI Couture Week is now part of Roohi’s fashion circuit. She has been seen in the front row alongside Bollywood names such as Ranveer Singh, Bobby Deol, Akshay Kumar, Aditya Roy Kapur, Arjun Kapoor, Sonam Kapoor, Malaika Arora, Arjun Rampal, Neha Dhupia, Jay Sean and Sonakshi Sinha, as well as renowned designers Sabyasachi, Manish Malhotra and Gaurav Gupta.

The front row can be quite a place.

There are clothes to watch, people to spot and, inevitably, outfits to remember. One person notices a silhouette; another is wondering where the shoes came from. Someone else is probably already saving the look for later.

Roohi’s work is to take that world beyond the room.

Chanel, Louis Vuitton, Dior, Valentino and Bulgari are among the luxury names she showcases, with boutique visits and exclusive previews adding another layer to her content. What she sees at a collection or inside a boutique becomes part of the fashion conversation she shares with her audience.

And then there are the moments when she is not simply covering an event, but helping bring it together.

This year, Roohi hosted Chandigarh Times Fashion Week at The Lalit, Chandigarh, welcoming guests and being involved in managing the proceedings and flow of the event. The fashion week, which began in 2022, has since become part of the city’s fashion calendar.

For Roohi, it offered a different view of a world she has increasingly become part of.

Sharing her experience, she says, “Hosting Chandigarh Times Fashion Week was a wonderful experience. It gave me the opportunity to interact with designers, celebrities, guests and the entire team behind the event. Being involved in the proceedings rather than simply attending a fashion event gave me a completely different perspective and it was exciting to be part of that process.”

That different perspective perhaps says something about how quickly life can change.

A little over a year ago, fashion influencing was a new chapter. Today, it sits alongside editorial work, content creation, couture weeks, luxury brands and events.

And look at where she started: Interior design, computers, administration and HR at Amul India.

The route was hardly predictable.

But then, perhaps, that is the point. We spend a lot of time planning careers as if they were straight roads. They rarely are. One opportunity leads to another, an interest becomes work and somewhere along the way, a new version of life takes shape.

Roohi’s has changed quite a bit in a little over a year.

The fashion story, it seems, is only getting started.
