New bridge to link Kullu town with four-lane highway

Kullu , September 9

A new double-lane bridge is likely to be constructed over the Beas River in Kullu to connect Kullu town with the four-lane highway, while the under-construction bridge at Pirri has been targeted for completion before March 31, officials said.

A World Bank team inspected the proposed site in Kullu and discussed the bridge’s feasibility. Kullu MLA Sunder Singh Thakur also attended the inspection.

Thakur said the Bhootnath Bridge was earlier built over the Beas River to connect Kullu town with the highway. However, due to technical problems, only small vehicles are currently being allowed to use the bridge.

He said the proposed double-lane bridge would provide better connectivity between Kullu town and the four-lane highway and allow larger vehicles to enter the town more easily.

Thakur said a separate bridge is also being constructed at Pirri. Once completed, it would improve connectivity for tourists travelling towards Kullu and Manali and provide easier access to the Beas River for rafting activities.

He said the contractor has been directed to complete the Pirri bridge before March 31 and make it available to the public.
