In a proud moment for Indian cinema, Katrina Kaif has been awarded Best Actor (Female) for her striking performance in Merry Christmas at the Indie Film Festival Awards – New York, which announced its 2024 winners for Hindi-language films this week.
The festival, globally respected for celebrating boundary-pushing storytelling and artistic innovation, acknowledged Katrina’s role as one of the most layered and restrained performances in her career. Known for her glamorous presence and commercial success, Merry Christmas saw her dive into darker, subtler emotional territory—earning critical acclaim for her vulnerability and precision on screen.
Katrina’s win marks yet another milestone in her ever-evolving career, as she continues to challenge herself with roles that defy formula and showcase range.
The awards night also shone a spotlight on several other Indian talents. Kartik Aaryan won Best Actor (Male) for Chandu Champion, which also clinched the title of Best Film. Siddharth Anand was recognised as Best Director for his high-octane spectacle Fighter, while Binny and Family took home Best Family Film.
In the OTT space, Imtiaz Ali was honoured with Best OTT Special for Chamkila. Rising stars were celebrated too: Anjini Dhawan (Best Debut Female – Binny and Family), Abhay Verma (Best Debut Male – Munjya), and Pratibha Ranta, who was hailed as a Rising Star for her performance in Laapataa Ladies.
