Sunjay Kapur, industrialist and Chairman of Sona Comstar, passed away at the age of 53 following a heart attack in England. The incident occurred during a polo match, a sport he was deeply passionate about.
Kapur was previously married to actor Karisma Kapoor. The couple, who wed in 2003 and divorced in 2016, share two children—Samaira and Kiaan. After their separation, Kapur married model Priya Sachdev, with whom he had a son.
In a poignant detail, Kapur had posted a message of condolence on social media about the tragic Air India crash in Ahmedabad just hours before his own passing.
Following the news, several members of the Kapoor family, including Kareena Kapoor Khan, Saif Ali Khan, Malaika Arora, and Amrita Arora, visited Karisma Kapoor’s home to offer support.
Sunjay Kapur was a respected name in India’s automotive sector, having played a pivotal role in shaping the electric mobility space. Under his leadership, Sona Comstar grew into a global manufacturer with operations across India, China, the US, Mexico, and Serbia. He also served as President of the Automotive Component Manufacturers Association (ACMA), contributing significantly to policy and industry development.
Sona Comstar confirmed the news through an official statement, expressing deep sorrow at the sudden loss.
