Says the Oscar-winning song is a memory of “what if his father and my uncle danced”

Actor Jr. NTR recently described the globally acclaimed song “Naatu Naatu” from RRR as a tribute to two of Telugu cinema’s legendary dancers—Chiranjeevi Garu and Balakrishna Babai. The actor made the remark during a live concert at Royal Albert Hall, attended by director S. S. Rajamouli and co-star Ram Charan.
Speaking about the emotional connection he has with the song, Jr. NTR said, “You know his father was known to be one of the greatest dancers, my uncle was also known to be a very good dancer. So, I think this song will be a memory of what if his father and my uncle danced, and this is an ode to fabulous great dancers Chiranjeevi Garu and Balakrishna Babai.”
Naatu Naatu won the Oscar for Best Original Song in 2023 and became an international sensation for its choreography and high-energy performance by Jr. NTR and Ram Charan. The film RRR has since been credited with bringing Indian cinema into global conversations and earned widespread recognition across international platforms.
Jr. NTR is currently working on his next project, NTRNeel, directed by Prashanth Neel, which is expected to be a large-scale action film.
