India asks UK to expedite extradition of Vijay Mallya, Nirav Modi at G20

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday asked UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer to expedite the extradition of fugitive businessmen Vijay Mallya and Nirav Modi, highlighting their substantial financial crimes against India. The issue was discussed during their first bilateral meeting on the sidelines of the G20 summit in Brazil.

PM Modi emphasized the importance of addressing economic offenders and resolving issues tied to migration and mobility. He also announced the establishment of two new Indian Consulates in Belfast and Manchester to enhance consular services for the Indian community in the UK, a move welcomed by PM Starmer.

Both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to the India-UK comprehensive strategic partnership, focusing on trade, technology, research, green finance, and cultural ties. They expressed confidence in concluding the Free Trade Agreement negotiations soon, addressing remaining issues for a balanced, forward-looking pact.

The two Prime Ministers also directed officials to expedite the implementation of agreed projects under the partnership and emphasized more frequent dialogue to strengthen bilateral ties.
