Himachal Guv briefs PM Modi on flood damages, anti-drug campaign

Himachal Pradesh Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi and briefed him on the recent monsoon-triggered disasters in the state and the progress of the ongoing anti-drug campaign. During the courtesy call, Shukla discussed the extensive damage caused by heavy rains, cloudbursts, and landslides, particularly in the Mandi district. He said the natural disasters had destroyed homes and farmlands, severely impacting local communities.

The Governor told the Prime Minister that the Centre’s support would be crucial in providing relief to the affected regions. He said Modi had assured all possible assistance for the state’s disaster-hit areas.

Highlighting efforts toward a drug-free Himachal, Shukla said awareness campaigns had reached grassroots levels, including panchayats. He shared updates on recent state-level initiatives and informed Modi about his participation in the “Nasha Mukt Yuva for Viksit Bharat” youth convention held recently in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh.

The three-day event, organised by the Union Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, concluded with the “Kashi Declaration”, which calls for a holistic approach to drug addiction as a public health and social challenge. Shukla said coordinated efforts between the government and civil society were key, and the declaration would guide the effective implementation of the Nasha Mukt Bharat campaign.
