The Himachal Pradesh government has decided to conduct panchayat elections before April 30, in line with directions issued by the High Court, Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu informed the Cabinet on Monday . Sukhu said the government would not challenge the High Court’s orders in the Supreme Court.
Sharing details about the Cabinet decisions in a press conference, Industry Minister Harshwardhan Chauhan said that that the Panchayati Raj Department had been directed to begin preparations for holding the elections within the stipulated timeframe. Clarifying the cabinet’s deliberations he said that the panchayat elections were not formally listed on the meeting’s agenda. However, he made it clear that the government was committed to complying with the court’s directions.
