Association presses for special recruitment drive, age relaxation; says delayed hiring left many aspirants overage

The Himachal Pradesh BEd Unemployed Association has urged the state government to conduct a special batch-wise hiring drive and grant age relaxation in upcoming commission recruitments, saying delays in providing job opportunities had left many qualified aspirants overage.

Addressing a press conference here on Saturday, association general secretary Soni Kumar said policies related to the appointment of Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) staff, para-teachers and School Management Committee (SMC) staff had deprived thousands of unemployed BEd candidates of equal employment opportunities. He said several eligible candidates had subsequently become overage and were now unable to apply for government posts.

Kumar urged the government to make special recruitment arrangements for such candidates and introduce an age-relaxation provision in future commission hiring. He said the association was not opposed to those who had already secured employment, but suitable arrangements should also be made for candidates who had been left out.

He said the association had been raising the issue for a long time and had approached the government through legislators and ministers. They would now intensify their peaceful agitation and organise protests at the district level, he added.

Kumar said the demand was also a matter of social justice and urged the government either to provide employment opportunities to the affected candidates or consider an unemployment allowance.

The association also sought permanent, commission-based recruitment in the education sector and resumption of the regular batch-wise recruitment process.
