Chandigarh, May 27
Punjab Cabinet Minister Barinder Kumar Goyal on Wednesday visited the Civil Hospital in Moonak after dozens of people fell ill following a wedding feast in the area. Several men, women, children and elderly people reportedly became sick after consuming food served at the function. Around 72 people were admitted to government and private hospitals, officials said, with some patients referred to Sangrur for advanced treatment.
During his visit, Goyal met patients and their families, enquiring about their condition and directing officials to ensure uninterrupted treatment and medical support. He instructed the health department and district administration to maintain round-the-clock monitoring until all patients recover fully.
Teams of doctors from nearby towns, including Kohrian, Bhawanigarh and Lehragaga, were deployed to assist with treatment, while a specialised medical team from Patiala was also sent to Moonak. Three ambulances were kept on standby to handle emergencies.
The Cabinet minister further said all patients were now out of danger and expressed satisfaction with the arrangements at the hospital. He also discussed the issue with health officials and administrators overseeing the operation. Later while addressing the media, Goyal called for stricter national laws against food adulteration, particularly in milk and other consumable items, saying such incidents must be prevented through stronger enforcement. He said the Punjab government was treating the matter seriously and promised appropriate action in the case.
