Chandigarh, November 7
Punjab BJP president Kewal Singh Dhillon has urged people across the state to light a lamp in memory of young lives lost to drug addiction this Diwali, calling for a collective effort to make Punjab drug-free.
Extending greetings on Diwali and Bandi Chhor Divas, Dhillon on Saturday said the festivals symbolise the victory of light over darkness, good over evil and hope over despair. He also urged people to share the joy of the celebrations with underprivileged sections of society.
In an emotional appeal, the BJP leader said drug addiction had devastated Punjab’s younger generation, leaving countless families grieving the loss of their children.
He said the tragedy was not limited to the families directly affected but was a shared loss for the entire state.
Dhillon appealed to every Punjabi to light a special lamp at home in memory of young people who had lost their lives to drugs. He also urged people to pray for an end to drug abuse so that no mother would have to lose her child to addiction.
“Let us take a firm collective pledge on this sacred occasion to build a drug-free, healthy and prosperous Punjab,” he said.
He called for greater community support for those in need and urged people to strengthen bonds of unity and brotherhood while praying for peace, prosperity and the well-being of Punjab.
