Shimla, May 8
A 45-year-old Deputy Controller of Finance posted with the Shimla Municipal Corporation allegedly died by suicide at his residence in Mehli area of Shimla on Thursday, police officials said.
The deceased has been identified as Rameshwar Sharma, a resident of Pine View Building on Gusan Road in Mehli. He originally belonged to Village Seema in the Ratnari area of Rohru tehsil in Shimla district.
According to police, Sharma had attended the office in the morning but reportedly took leave in the afternoon and returned home earlier than usual. Preliminary investigations suggest that his wife later found him hanging inside the house and immediately rushed him to Indira Gandhi Medical College and Hospital (IGMC) for treatment. However, doctors declared him dead.
Officials said the Shimla East Police Station received information through the Police Control Room regarding a man being brought to IGMC following an alleged suicide attempt. A police team subsequently reached the hospital and initiated legal proceedings.
Police have registered a case under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) and started an investigation into the incident. Authorities said a post-mortem examination is being conducted at IGMC to ascertain the exact cause of death.
No suicide note has been recovered so far. Police officials stated that the reasons behind the alleged suicide are yet to be established, and further investigation is underway.
