New Delhi, June 2
Eleven people were rescued after a powerful LPG cylinder blast caused a single story house to collapse in Delhi’s Mukundpur area on Tuesday morning. One woman suffered critical burn injuries and was admitted to the hospital as emergency responders continued search and rescue operations at the site.
The incident took place in Ishu Vihar, Mukundpur-II, in north Delhi. According to officials, emergency services received information about the explosion and building collapse in the morning, with reports suggesting that several people could be trapped beneath the debris.
Rescue teams from the Delhi Fire Services, along with police personnel and local residents, rushed to the scene and launched immediate operations to pull out those trapped under the rubble. Authorities confirmed that 11 people were rescued from the collapsed structure.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the blast may have occurred while gas was being transferred from a larger LPG cylinder to a smaller one. Officials said multiple cylinders were found at the site during the rescue operation.
Police also suspect that a utensil colouring unit was being operated from the premises. The exact cause of the explosion is being investigated.
Officials said several injured persons were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. The woman who sustained severe burn injuries remains in critical condition.
Eyewitnesses described hearing a loud explosion before rushing towards the collapsed house. Local residents joined rescue efforts and helped remove debris to reach those trapped beneath.
One eyewitness said people immediately began clearing the rubble after hearing cries for help. Another local resident involved in the rescue effort said the priority was saving lives, despite the risks and confusion at the scene.
Authorities continue to clear debris and conduct thorough searches to ensure that no one remains trapped inside the collapsed structure. Further investigations are underway to determine the circumstances that led to the blast and collapse.
