Shimla, May 19
Deputy Chief Whip of the Himachal Pradesh government, Kewal Singh Pathania, on Tuesday said that the results of the municipal body elections reflect strong public support for the Congress party and a clear endorsement of its development-focused governance.
Reacting to the outcome, Pathania stated that the people of the state have shown trust in the Congress government’s three-and-a-quarter-year tenure under Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu. He said the party’s performance in the local elections demonstrates public approval of its policies and development initiatives.
According to him, the Congress secured victories in 29 municipal bodies across the state, including six in Kangra district, while the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) won only 16.
Pathania asserted that the state government is functioning effectively and enjoys public confidence. He added that Congress has always remained committed to public service and does not contest elections merely for power.
Describing the municipal results as a “semi-final” of state politics, he expressed confidence that the Congress would also perform strongly in upcoming municipal corporation elections and return to power in 2027 under the leadership of Chief Minister Sukhu.
