The Congress on Wednesday appointed senior leaders to oversee preparations for the upcoming municipal corporation elections in Himachal Pradesh, shortly after the BJP made similar appointments. The appointments, approved with immediate effect, aim to strengthen the party’s organizational readiness ahead of the 2026 civic polls.

Minister Rohit Thakur has been named in charge of Solan, Vikramaditya Singh for Mandi, Rajesh Dharmani for Palampur, and R. S. Bali for Dharamshala.

The decision was cleared by the All India Congress Committee, the state affairs wing, along with the state Congress president, party sources said.

State Organization General Secretary Vinod Zinta issued the notification and asked the appointed leaders to take charge immediately. He emphasized the need for better coordination and organizational strengthening to ensure the party’s success in the municipal elections.

The Congress move is seen as part of its broader strategy to consolidate its grassroots presence and gear up for the upcoming urban local body polls in the state.
