Shimla, April 29
BJP State Vice President Rashmi Dhar Sood on Tuesday criticized the Congress over its stand on women’s reservation, alleging hypocrisy and inconsistency. She said the party, which earlier opposed the Women’s Reservation Bill in Parliament, is now projecting itself as a supporter of women’s rights.
Targeting Mahila Congress in-charge Surbhi Verma, Sood claimed that Congress lacked genuine intent to ensure 33% reservation for women and had instead worked to block their participation in governance. She further alleged that Congress leaders were showing signs of frustration following the BJP Mahila Morcha’s large-scale mobilization, stating that recent reactions reflected political unease.
Sood also accused the Congress of treating women as a vote bank and promoting only a select few, while ignoring grassroots leadership. Highlighting the BJP’s position, she said the party has ensured over 33% representation for women within its organization and credited the leadership of Narendra Modi for advancing women’s empowerment initiatives.
Rejecting Congress’s allegations, she claimed the party was attempting to mislead women through “fabricated narratives” but asserted that voters are now aware. She added that women would respond decisively in the upcoming elections.
