Family, Villagers Celebrate Harjinder Kaur’s Commonwealth Games Silver Success

Harjinder Kaur, a resident of Mehas village in Patiala district, has won a silver medal for India at the Commonwealth Games, bringing laurels to both the nation and Punjab. News of her achievement sparked widespread celebrations across her village and the surrounding area.

Her brother said the family watched the match together with their parents and was overwhelmed with joy when Harjinder secured the silver medal for India. He said their happiness knew no bounds after witnessing her success on the international stage.

According to the family, Harjinder called home immediately after winning the medal. The following morning, her brother and mother visited Gurdwara Shri Dukh Niwaran Sahib to offer prayers in gratitude. Since then, relatives, neighbours and villagers have continued to visit their home to congratulate the family.

Recalling the family’s difficult past, Harjinder’s father said he had struggled through poverty and supported the household by rearing livestock. He said he worked hard to ensure his daughter could pursue her sporting ambitions, adding that her dedication had earned recognition for both their village and the country.

Harjinder Kaur’s parents said they were extremely happy with their daughter’s achievement and deeply proud that she had brought honour to the family, Punjab and India through her success.
