Chandigarh, July 10

Chandigarh-based artist Kanishka Puri has been awarded the internationally recognized En Foco Fellowship, a prestigious honour that celebrates artists whose work offers meaningful perspectives on society, identity, memory and the human experience.
Kanishka’s artistic practice explores personal archives, matrilineal histories and the relationship between people and nature. With a background in science, she combines biological research and scientific inquiry with contemporary artistic expression.
Her recent work features Physarum polycephalum, commonly known as slime mold, a single-celled organism renowned for its ability to solve complex problems despite lacking a brain or nervous system. Through this medium, she examines themes of memory, interconnectedness, and the bond between humans and the natural world.
Her projects also highlight family histories, women’s lived experiences and the often overlooked labour of women and non-human organisms, drawing attention to forms of care and work that frequently remain invisible in social and economic systems.
Reacting to the recognition, Kanishka Puri said she was deeply honoured to receive the En Foco Fellowship and described it as an encouragement to continue documenting the stories of women in her community while exploring humanity’s connection with nature.
The En Foco Fellowship is internationally recognized for supporting diverse and independent voices in art and photography. It provides artists with opportunities to develop new projects, engage with the global arts community and strengthen their international creative presence.
Kanishka Puri’s recognition marks a significant milestone in her artistic career and is being celebrated as a proud achievement for Chandigarh’s art community.
