The Union Cabinet, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved a revised version of the National Program for Dairy Development (NPDD), injecting an additional ₹1,000 crore into the scheme. The total budget now stands at ₹2,790 crore for the 15th Finance Commission period (2021-26), marking a significant push for India’s dairy industry.
The updated NPDD aims to modernize infrastructure, enhance milk procurement and processing, and strengthen quality control. The initiative is expected to improve market access for farmers, enable better pricing through value addition, and streamline the supply chain, ultimately increasing rural incomes.
The dairy sector is a critical pillar of India’s economy, supporting millions of farmers. With the revised scheme, the government hopes to drive sustainable growth, ensuring long-term benefits for both producers and consumers.
