Manali, May 1
The 2570th birth anniversary of Lord Buddha was celebrated with enthusiasm in Manali, with a grand procession and cultural programmes. A ceremonial procession was held on Mall Road, where locals and monks carried the idol of Lord Buddha and sacred Buddhist texts. A large number of followers participated in the event.
A religious gathering was organised at the Himalayan Buddhist Monastery, where spiritual leaders spoke about the life and teachings of Lord Buddha and urged people to follow the path of peace and compassion. Traditional Cham dance emerged as the main highlight of the celebrations, performed by monks. Cultural performances, including Ladakhi, Kulluvi and Tibetan dances, were also presented.
Deputy Commissioner Kullu Anurag Chandra Sharma attended the programme as the chief guest and called upon people to follow the teachings of non-violence and work towards global peace and harmony. Organisers said the celebrations were held on a large scale, with participation from different regions, including monks from Lahaul Spiti.
