The Himachal Pradesh BJP will organise a month-long “25 Years of Seva and Samarpan” campaign from September 17 to mark Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s birthday, state BJP president Dr Rajeev Bindal said on Monday.

Addressing a press conference in Shimla, Bindal said the campaign would begin with a target of lighting diyas at 80,000 houses across the state through 8,000 polling booths.

Blood donation camps will be organized across Himachal Pradesh from September 17 to 19, while painting and debate competitions will be held for schoolchildren, he said. Bindal said 25 types of service activities would be conducted at the mandal and district levels.

He said a “Seva Jyoti Yatra” would also be organized in every district to take forward the resolve to build a developed India by 2047.

Highlighting Modi’s tenure as Gujarat chief minister and prime minister, Bindal said the BJP-led government had undertaken several welfare initiatives. He claimed that four crore people had been provided houses, 11 crore had received toilets and 13 crore had been provided tap water.

He further claimed that 50 crore people had received free foodgrains, while 10 crore farmers had received financial assistance directly in their bank accounts. He also claimed that 25 crore people had been brought out of poverty.

Bindal also targeted the Congress government in Himachal Pradesh, alleging that the latest CAG report had exposed serious financial mismanagement in the state.

He said the recently concluded Monsoon Session of the Assembly had also highlighted the government’s shortcomings. Bindal claimed that around 3,500 schools had only one teacher, while 150 schools had no teachers, despite nearly 2,000 schools having been closed.

He alleged that the government had discontinued uniforms for children and free travel in government buses. Bindal also claimed that the government was aiming to close 5,000 schools and had borrowed Rs 45,000 crore in four years.

The BJP leader further alleged that CBSE and English-medium schools had been started without adequate preparation, putting students’ futures at risk.

Bindal said the BJP had organized protests at 171 places across the state in July and alleged that the government was unwilling to accept public opposition. He said even a 92-year-old person had participated in a protest against the government and announced that the BJP would now hold protests at 200 locations every month.

Asked about BJP MP Kangana Ranaut’s conduct in Mandi, Bindal distanced the party from the matter. Referring to Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu’s remarks about reducing the number of IAS, IPS and IFS officers in the state, he said Ranaut was capable of responding to the issue herself.

“Kangana will answer for herself, and I will not respond to her statement,” Bindal said.
