BJP retains Shrikant Sharma as HP in-charge, names Darshana Singh co-in-charge

Pachhad MLA Reena Kashyap appointed co-in-charge for Jammu and Kashmir as Satish Poonia takes charge of the Union Territory

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday retained senior leader Shrikant Sharma as its Himachal Pradesh in-charge and appointed Rajya Sabha MP Darshana Singh as co-in-charge of the state as part of its latest organisational appointments.  The party also appointed Pachhad MLA Reena Kashyap as co-in-charge for Jammu and Kashmir, where it named Satish Poonia in-charge.

The appointments are part of the BJP’s nationwide organisational exercise covering states and Union Territories.

Shrikant Sharma, an MLA from Mathura in Uttar Pradesh and former state Energy Minister, has been associated with several organisational responsibilities in the BJP. He was the party’s election in-charge for Himachal Pradesh during the 2024 Lok Sabha elections and was subsequently assigned responsibility for the state organisation.

The BJP won all four Lok Sabha constituencies in Himachal Pradesh in the 2024 general election.

Darshana Singh, a Rajya Sabha member from Uttar Pradesh since 2022, has held several organisational positions in the BJP Mahila Morcha, including state president and national vice-president. She has also served in various organisational roles in the party’s Kashi region.

Meanwhile, Reena Kashyap, who represents the Pachhad Assembly constituency in Sirmaur district, has been given the organisational responsibility of Jammu and Kashmir. She was first elected to the Himachal Pradesh Assembly in the 2019 Pachhad by-election and retained the seat in the 2022 Assembly election.

Kashyap will work alongside Satish Poonia in coordinating BJP organisational activities in Jammu and Kashmir.

The BJP Himachal Pradesh unit congratulated Sharma, Singh and Kashyap on their new responsibilities and expressed confidence in their organisational roles.
