Congress leader Rahul Gandhi received birthday greetings from across the political spectrum on Friday as he turned 56, with leaders praising his role in public life and his advocacy for democratic values and social justice. Prime Minister Narendra Modi was among those who extended wishes, posting a message on X wishing the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha good health and a long life.
Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge led tributes from within the party, describing Gandhi as a leader committed to constitutional values and the concerns of ordinary people. He said Gandhi’s public life reflected the Congress tradition of inclusiveness, social justice and compassion.
Messages of support also came from leaders of the opposition INDIA bloc, including RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav and NCP (SP) MP Supriya Sule. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and TVK leader C. Joseph Vijay wished Gandhi success in his continued efforts towards national progress, democratic principles and public welfare.
Several Congress leaders, including Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar, senior leaders Sachin Pilot and Ashok Gehlot, also greeted Gandhi on the occasion.
Congress general secretary K.C. Venugopal described Gandhi as a symbol of hope for many Indians, particularly young people and marginalised communities. He said Gandhi had consistently spoken out on issues concerning democracy, equality and social inclusion.
The Congress party, in its official birthday message, said Gandhi’s opposition to injustice and inequality had resonated with many citizens, particularly younger generations seeking a more empathetic and inclusive style of politics.
Gandhi, a former Congress president and a four-time Member of Parliament, currently serves as the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha and remains one of the central figures in India’s opposition politics.
