Dharamshala, April 13

Police have initiated proceedings to freeze assets worth around ₹1 crore belonging to a drug peddler as part of a zero-tolerance campaign against narcotics, officials said, adding that properties worth ₹2.5 crore linked to traffickers have been identified for action within three months.

The district police said it is intensifying its drive to dismantle the chitta network and has already prepared a list of assets belonging to drug traffickers that will be attached and seized soon under the NDPS Act.

Officials said a major breakthrough was recently achieved in Baijnath, where an organized drug network was dismantled. The operation led to the arrest of the main accused, his son, and associates, who were allegedly running the racket. The network was receiving drug supplies from Punjab, and one person was also arrested from Amritsar in connection with the case.

Police said strict action is being taken against properties acquired through drug trafficking. Under provisions of the NDPS Act, authorities have the power to attach and seize assets linked to narcotics trade to weaken such networks.

Last year, properties worth ₹2.5 crore belonging to drug peddlers were seized. This year, apart from the ₹1 crore property set for freezing, the process is underway against other accused, with assets worth around ₹2.5 crore already identified for attachment.
