Chinese President Xi Jinping on Wednesday described China-Russia relations as precious in the current international environment, highlighting the need for stronger strategic coordination during a meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov in Beijing. He stressed the need for cooperation to safeguard mutual interests and support broader global stability.

Xi said that the relationship between Beijing and Moscow has become even more important as the world faces uncertainty and change. He emphasised that working together strategically will help protect both countries’ interests and strengthen unity among developing nations.

He also urged both countries to act responsibly as major world powers and permanent members of the United Nations Security Council. Xi said China and Russia should support multilateralism, help make the United Nations more effective, and work toward a fairer international order.

Xi said that both countries should honor the agreements he reached with Russian President Vladimir Putin. He stressed the importance of ongoing communication and coordination to strengthen their partnership.

Lavrov, visiting China for 2 days, said the relationship between the two countries has remained strong despite external challenges. He noted ongoing progress in trade, investment, and cooperation within international organizations such as the United Nations.

He also said that Russia wants to work more closely with China to support fairness in world affairs and help promote global peace and stability.

This meeting took place amid ongoing geopolitical tensions, including conflicts in West Asia and Ukraine. Recent comments by US President Donald Trump about Iran have also influenced global discussions, but the future of these conflicts is still unclear.

The meeting shows that China and Russia plan to keep building their relationship. Both countries say they want to work together more and take a bigger role in global affairs during these uncertain times.
