India has halved the number of districts most affected by left-wing extremism, reducing them from 12 to six, Home Minister Amit Shah announced on Tuesday. In a post on X, formerly known as Twitter, Shah described the development as a significant step towards making the country “Naxal-free.” He credited the Modi government’s “ruthless approach” to insurgency and focus on infrastructure and economic growth for the decline in Naxalite influence.
“The government is building a strong, secure, and prosperous India by taking decisive action against Naxalism while promoting all-round development,” he said. Shah reiterated that the government aims to eradicate left-wing extremism entirely by 31 March 2026.
