After thousands of protesters gathered in Central Delhi and began marching towards Parliament, a two-member delegation of the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) met Union Health Minister JP Nadda on Monday, opening a channel of communication between the demonstrators and the government.
Nadda said the meeting was held in a “cordial atmosphere” and marked the first formal attempt by the protesters to seek dialogue with the government. “Today morning, for the first time, a proposal came from the protesters’ side for talks with the government. Our discussions continued from 11:50 am,” Nadda said while sharing details of the meeting.
The minister said he held an initial discussion with the delegation before receiving a written petition from them at around 4 pm. He appealed to the protesters to end their sit-in and help authorities restore normalcy in the capital.
CJP chief spokesperson Saurav Das said he and the party’s national spokesperson Ashutosh Ranka met Nadda at his residence for around 10 minutes after waiting for more than two hours.
In a post on social media platform X, Das said the delegation submitted a written letter outlining their demands and that the minister had assured them he would discuss the issues internally.
The meeting was held amid a large gathering of CJP supporters protesting near Parliament Street. The protestors were demanding accountability over examination irregularities and calling for the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.
