Punjab’s women prisoners’ children will be enrolled in Anganwadi centers for nutritional support and early education, announced Dr. Baljit Kaur, Minister for Social Security, Women, and Child Development, during a visit to Faridkot jail. The Cabinet Minister, who toured the Modern Central Jail in Faridkot, interacted with inmates and reviewed their basic needs. She reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to the welfare of women prisoners and their children, under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann. As part of the initiative, the children will benefit from the supplementary nutrition program and access to essential education at Anganwadi centers. Dr. Kaur also inaugurated a sewing center within the jail to empower women through skill development, preparing them for reintegration into society.
A cultural program was also held, showcasing the creativity and talents of the women. Dr. Kaur emphasized the role of Anganwadi centers in the holistic development of children and reiterated the Punjab government’s commitment to their health and education. She further highlighted the state’s ongoing health camps to raise awareness among women and provide employment opportunities. These camps have been organized across Punjab, with recent ones benefiting women in Faridkot.
The Minister underscored the importance of including women prisoners in the state’s development, encouraging them to pursue education and secure employment post-release. Dr. Kaur praised the jail superintendent for excellent arrangements and directed continued efforts to enhance prisoner welfare. Dr. Shena Aggarwal, Director of Social Security, Women, and Development, and SSP Dr. Pragya Jain accompanied Dr. Kaur on the visit.
