Hollywood stars Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie have reached a divorce settlement, concluding an eight-year legal battle since Jolie filed for divorce in 2016. The former couple signed off on their divorce on December 30. The actress cited irreconcilable differences when she filed for dissolution after a two-year marriage. “This is just one part of a long ongoing process that started eight years ago. Angelina is exhausted but relieved this chapter is over,” Jolie’s lawyer, James Simon, told the news outlet People.com:

The divorce proceedings included disputes over custody of their six children and ownership of shared assets like the $164 million French estate, Château Miraval. In January 2017, Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie agreed to seal sensitive records concerning their six children, most of whom are now adults: Maddox (23), Pax (21), Zahara (19), Shiloh (18), and twins Vivienne and Knox (16), the news outlet said.

Jolie’s representatives stated she has focused on finding peace for her family, while Pitt’s representatives declined to comment. The pair were declared legally single in 2019, though their legal battles continued.

Jolie filed for divorce shortly after an incident aboard a private plane in which she alleged Pitt was abusive. Authorities investigated but did not press charges, and Jolie did not pursue legal action. Despite their public split and prolonged negotiations, both actors have expressed a commitment to ensuring their children’s well-being.
