Chandigarh, December 28
Punjab Police have made a significant breakthrough in their investigation of a grenade attack on Islamabad Police Station, with the arrest of two individuals linked to a narco-terror module. The arrests were made by the State Special Operations Cell (SSOC) in Amritsar, with police recovering 1.4 kg of heroin, a hand grenade, and two sophisticated pistols. The accused, Gurjeet Singh from Gharinda, Amritsar, and Baljit Singh from Tarn Taran, are reportedly connected to a foreign-based smuggling network. The police also linked them to a grenade attack on the Islamabad Police Station on December 17, which was later claimed by Jeevan Fauji, a member of the Babbar Khalsa International (BKI), via social media.
Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav revealed that the investigation had uncovered that the accused were working under the direction of Sandeep Singh, a drug smuggler based in the USA. Sandeep had allegedly orchestrated the smuggling of drugs and weapons from Pakistan into India through his associates.
AIG Sukhminder Singh Mann of SSOC Amritsar confirmed the recovery of the grenade and firearms, noting that efforts are underway to track the entire network and apprehend remaining members. Investigations are ongoing to determine the terrorist organisation behind the police station attack and identify the foreign handlers involved.
A fresh FIR has been registered as part of the investigation, which includes charges under the NDPS Act, Arms Act, and Explosives Act.
