The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) has arrested Harjit Rai, a revenue Patwari posted at Dera Baba Nanak in Gurdaspur district, for allegedly accepting a ₹4,000 bribe, officials said on Friday. An official VB spokesperson stated that the arrest followed an inquiry into an online complaint filed by Surinder Singh, a resident of Nasirpur village in Batala tehsil. The investigation revealed that Rai accepted the bribe to delay the mutation (Inteqal) of ancestral land, which he had previously transferred in favor of the complainant’s nephew.
A case under the Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered at the VB Police Station in Range Amritsar. Rai will be presented in court on Saturday as further investigations continue, the spokesperson added. The Punjab Vigilance Bureau has been conducting an ongoing campaign to curb corruption across the state.
