President, Droupadi Murmu, marked Constitution Day by highlighting the foundational role of the Constitution in the country’s democratic journey. Speaking at the Central Hall of the ‘Samvidhan Sadan,’ the President recalled the adoption of the Constitution 75 years ago, calling it a “strong foundation stone” for our democratic republic, ensuring dignity for all citizens.
Reflecting on 75 years of independence, the President noted that the Constitution embodies the ideals of the freedom struggle—justice, liberty, equality, and fraternity—enshrined in the Preamble. These principles, she said, create an inclusive environment for citizens to thrive and contribute to society. The President emphasized the collaborative roles of the Executive, Legislature, and Judiciary in upholding Constitutional ideals. She stressed the importance of citizens adhering to their Fundamental Duties, including protecting public property, promoting harmony, safeguarding the environment, and working towards national unity.
Praising Parliament’s legislative efforts, she highlighted recent government initiatives for the development of marginalized communities and judicial reforms aimed at improving the justice system’s efficiency.
Calling the Constitution a “living and progressive document,” the President lauded its adaptability to societal changes and its role in achieving social justice and inclusive development. She noted that India, as a global leader and advocate for international peace, is fulfilling the vision outlined by the Constitution’s framers.
Highlighting the importance of Constitution Day celebrations, she urged citizens to pass on the lessons of the past and embody Constitutional values in their daily lives. She expressed optimism about achieving the national goal of building a “Viksit Bharat” by 2047.
