K. Sanjay Murthy sworn in as new Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) of India

Chandigarh, November 21

K. Sanjay Murthy was sworn in as the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) of India on Thursday at a ceremony held in the Ganatantra Mandap of Rashtrapati Bhavan. President Droupadi Murmu administered the oath to Murthy, according to an official statement.

Murthy, a 1989-batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer of the Himachal Pradesh cadre, succeeds Girish Chandra Murmu in the constitutional role tasked with auditing government accounts and promoting accountability in public spending.

Before assuming this position, Murthy served as Secretary in the Department of Higher Education under the Ministry of Education. A notification from the Department of Economic Affairs, Ministry of Finance, stated: “By virtue of the power vested in her by clause (1) of Article 148 of the Constitution of India, the President has been pleased to appoint K. Sanjay Murthy to be the Comptroller and Auditor General of India with effect from the date he assumes charge of his office.”
