In a significant blow to the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), former Delhi Minister Kailash Gahlot joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday, a day after resigning from AAP. Gahlot, rejecting claims of quitting under pressure, stated that his decision was driven by the party’s deviation from its foundational principles.
Addressing the media after his induction into the BJP, Gahlot explained, “I didn’t join BJP due to any external pressure, but because AAP compromised its ideology. I initially joined AAP to serve the common people, but now, the party has become disconnected from its original mission, with its leaders transforming from ‘aam’ (common) to ‘khaas’ (elite).”
Gahlot was welcomed into the BJP by Union Minister Manohar Lal Khattar, alongside senior leaders Jay Panda, Dushyant Gautam, and Harsh Malhotra.
