Worldwide Immigration and Consultancy Services (WWICS) has welcomed Canada’s 2027-2029 Immigration Levels Plan, which proposes up to 580,000 permanent residence (PR) admissions in 2027, including additional spaces for eligible workers and humanitarian applicants already living in the country.
Col BS Sandhu, CMD of WWICS, said the proposed measures would provide greater certainty to eligible individuals seeking permanent residence while supporting Canada’s workforce requirements and humanitarian commitments.
Under the plan, Canada will maintain its annual PR admissions target at 380,000 for 2027. Additionally, a time-limited provision will offer up to 200,000 extra spaces, comprising up to 100,000 for eligible workers and their accompanying families and another 100,000 for specified humanitarian categories.
Welcoming the announcement, Col Sandhu said the initiative recognised the contributions of individuals who had established their careers, families and lives in Canada. He added that facilitating their transition to permanent residence could improve long-term stability and help employers retain experienced workers.
The workers’ category will cover eligible individuals under select immigration programmes, including certain streams closed to new applicants, as well as qualifying candidates under the Provincial Nominee Program.
The humanitarian component will address pending applications involving spouses, common-law partners and dependent children of Canadian citizens and permanent residents. It will also cover applicants under specified Hong Kong and Ukraine immigration pathways and certain in-Canada humanitarian and compassionate cases.
Col Sandhu advised prospective applicants to carefully assess the eligibility conditions and scope of the announced measures before making immigration-related decisions.
He said Canada continued to focus on attracting skilled talent, meeting regional workforce requirements and keeping families together. He also urged applicants to rely on official immigration information and seek professional guidance before proceeding.
WWICS will continue to assist prospective immigrants in understanding available Canadian immigration pathways and programme requirements, Col Sandhu added.
