Punjabi singer-actor Diljit Dosanjh’s October 30 concert at Delhi’s Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium has received police clearance, according to reports quoting organiser BookMyShow Live on Friday, a day after reports of permission being denied cast doubt on the show.
On Thursday, a letter issued by the Office of the Deputy Commissioner of Police, South District, to ticketing platform BookMyShow reportedly stated that the request to organise the Delhi leg of Dosanjh’s Aura India Tour could not be approved, citing threat-related inputs and security concerns during the festive season.
Subsequent reports said the organisers had presented plans covering security, traffic management and crowd control, following which permission was granted.
The concert was originally scheduled for November 1 but was moved to October 30 after Rajya Sabha MP Vikramjit Sahney and the Punjabi Promotion Council appealed to Dosanjh to avoid holding the event on the anniversary of the 1984 anti-Sikh riots.
Known for his energetic stage presence and Punjabi hits, Dosanjh draws large crowds to his live shows. The Delhi concert is set to open the India leg of the Aura tour, with subsequent performances scheduled in Indore, Ahmedabad, Mumbai, Bengaluru and Lucknow. Chandigarh has also been listed as a tour stop, though its date and venue have yet to be announced.
