Men’s hockey team enters semi-finals after 10-0 win over Bangladesh

Chandigarh, September 28

India’s medal tally reached 45 at the end of Day 10, with the country adding four silver and four bronze medals. Three Indian boxers also secured medals by reaching the semi-finals.

Yashvir Singh won silver in the men’s javelin, while Murali Sreeshankar finished second in the men’s long jump. Gulveer Singh claimed silver in the men’s 1500m and Esha Singh took silver in the women’s 25m pistol.

Rohit Yadav won bronze in the men’s javelin, while Parul Chaudhary finished third in the women’s 5000m. Vithya Ramraj took bronze in the women’s 400m hurdles and Pincky Balhara won bronze in the women’s Kurash -78kg category.

In boxing, Lovlina Borgohain reached the semi-finals of the women’s 75kg category, while Priya Ghanghas advanced in the women’s 60kg and Kapil Pokhariya in the men’s 90kg. All three are assured of at least bronze medals.

They join Parveen Hooda, Ankush Panghal and Narender Berwal, who had already booked their places in the semi-finals.

India’s men’s hockey team produced a dominant display, beating Bangladesh 10-0 in their final Pool A match. The unbeaten Indians finished top of the group and advanced to the semi-finals.

In squash, India’s men completed a 3-0 win over South Korea. Velavan Senthilkumar, Abhay Singh and Veer Chotrani all won their matches 3-0 as India topped Pool A unbeaten and reached the quarter-finals.

The women’s team defeated Japan 2-1. Joshna Chinappa beat Erisa Sano 3-0, while Anahat Singh lost to world No 6 Satomi Watanabe in five games. India secured the overall victory through the remaining matches.
