Farmers discuss crop diversification, technology and resource efficiency

Chandigarh, September 25

The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) organised the fifth CII Northern Region Innovative Farmers Meet in Sangrur on Friday, bringing farmers, industry representatives, agricultural experts and government stakeholders together to discuss crop diversification, technology adoption and sustainable farm practices aimed at improving productivity and incomes.

Punjab Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister Gurmeet Singh Khudian highlighted the need for innovation and modern agricultural practices to strengthen the farming sector. He also acknowledged Punjab farmers’ contribution to India’s agricultural growth.

“Punjab’s farmers have always been at the forefront of agricultural progress. It is important that we continue to encourage innovation, new technologies and sustainable practices to ensure better productivity and incomes for our farmers,” he said.

Dr Harbans Singh Sidhu, Chief Agriculture Officer for Moga, Kotkapura and Sangrur districts, stressed the importance of scientific approaches suited to local conditions. He encouraged farmers to explore new technologies and practices to improve productivity and profitability.

CII Punjab Chairman Harpreet Singh Nibber, also Managing Director and CEO of Pritika Auto Industries Limited, attended the event. His participation highlighted the industry’s role in facilitating knowledge exchange and supporting collaborative efforts in the agricultural sector.

Industry representatives and experts interacted with farmers on contemporary agricultural issues, including innovative farming practices, crop diversification, efficient resource utilisation, technology adoption, and sustainable agricultural solutions. The discussions provided opportunities for direct knowledge exchange between farmers and technical experts.

Eight villages from different districts of Punjab were also recognised for their agricultural work. The recognition acknowledged their adoption of innovative farming practices and their efforts to build a more sustainable and productive agricultural sector.
