Five-day workshop focuses on school management, teaching quality

School heads from 46 PM SHRI schools in Kangra and Chamba districts are undergoing a five-day training programme, aimed at strengthening leadership skills and improving the quality of education under the PM SHRI and Samagra Shiksha schemes.

The training workshop brings together principals, headmasters and heads of primary schools from both districts. Bhag Singh, Deputy Director of Education (Inspection), Kangra, said the programme is focused on helping school heads effectively implement various initiatives under the PM SHRI scheme and Samagra Shiksha.

Kangra has 30 PM SHRI schools, comprising 23 government senior secondary schools, two high schools and five primary schools. Chamba has 16 PM SHRI schools, including 12 senior secondary schools and four primary schools.

The training focuses on school leadership, academic quality and effective implementation of the provisions of the PM SHRI scheme. Officials said the programme aims to equip school heads with the skills required to improve teaching-learning practices and strengthen overall school management.
The department is also working to develop infrastructure and learning facilities in the PM SHRI schools, including ICT labs, digital libraries, Atal Tinkering Labs, playgrounds, toilets and science laboratories. Teacher training and student-focused activities, including exposure visits, are also part of the programme.

Chitrakala, English lecturer at DIET, Kangra, and District Nodal Officer for PM SHRI, said the Centre funds the 30 PM SHRI schools in Kangra and routes it through the state government. Funds are released for different interventions according to prescribed provisions.

She said the funding was released in two instalments. The first instalment has already been released and the utilisation certificate is required by October 31. The second instalment will be released thereafter and must be utilised by March 31, subject to submission of the certificate.

Officials said the training was intended to ensure the better utilisation of resources and the effective implementation of the PM SHRI activities, with the broader objective of improving educational quality and supporting students’ overall development.
