Two-day Manali conference discusses four-year UG programme, technology use and practical learning across colleges

A two-day conference on higher education reforms, organised by the Himachal Pradesh Higher Education Department under the Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan (RUSA), concluded at Devalok, 15 Mile near Manali, with discussions on academic quality, skill development and student facilities under the National Education Policy (NEP).

Himachal Pradesh Education Department Secretary Rakesh Kanwar, who presided over the concluding session, said such platforms provided institutions an opportunity to share best practices and successful initiatives.

He said colleges made presentations on innovations and achievements, which could help replicate successful initiatives across the state.

Director of Higher Education Dr Sunita Singh said the conference focused on innovation, effective use of resources, technology and greater engagement of students with society and communities.

She said participants also discussed implementation of the four-year undergraduate programme introduced under the NEP, replacing the earlier three-year degree structure.

Dr Singh said skill development courses had been introduced under the new education policy to help students acquire practical skills alongside academic education and improve their ability to earn a livelihood.

The conference brought together 142 principals from 133 colleges and nine Sanskrit colleges across the state.
