Kangra police seize heroin, arrest three in Shahpur
Kangra, September 19
Kangra police have arrested three people after allegedly recovering 67.62 grams of heroin during a vehicle check near Shahpur, Superintendent of Police Kulbhushan Verma said.
The seizure was made by the police’s CIA team while checking an Alto car. The police have identified the accused as Ajay Kumar, 36, a resident of Shokni Da Kot in Dharamshala; Devi Singh of Majheda in Chamba district; and Sandeep Kaur of Dugwala in Tarn Taran, Punjab.
Police have registered a case at Shahpur police station under the NDPS Act. Police are questioning the accused and investigating their possible backward linkages. They are being produced before a court.
SP Verma said Kangra police have registered 113 NDPS cases so far this year and arrested around 244 accused. He said most of those arrested are from Himachal Pradesh, while people linked to Punjab, Jammu and Delhi have also been booked in drug-related cases.
The SP said police are also taking action under the PIT-NDPS Act against people repeatedly involved in drug-related offences. Police gather information about such individuals through panchayat representatives, local sources and police reports.
Those found re-engaging in drug-related offences despite being out on bail are being dealt with under PIT-NDPS provisions as per the law, he said.
