Actor’s portrayal emerges as a major highlight as Punjab Government-backed theatre production makes its Patiala debut

Patiala, September 18

The first Patiala staging of Punjab Government-backed theatre production ‘Hamare Ram’ drew a strong audience response, with actor Ashutosh Rana’s portrayal of Ravana emerging as a major attraction at the Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law.

Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr Balbir Singh attended the performance along with Deputy Commissioner Dr Himanshu Aggarwal, OSD Urban Development Mukilan R, ADC Damanjit Singh Mann, Colonel J.V., Jasbir Singh Gandhi, Padma Shri awardee Pran Sabharwal and M.M. Jaggi, among others.

The minister said the performance was part of a state-wide cultural initiative under which 41 theatre shows of ‘Hamare Ram’ are being organised free of cost across Punjab.

He said the initiative aimed to make the life and ideals of Lord Ram accessible to people from all sections of society.

Dr Balbir Singh said the Bhagwant Mann-led government was using theatre to convey messages of truth, righteousness, compassion and unity, while promoting the traditional values associated with Sanatan Dharma.

He said two more shows would be held in Patiala on September 19.

Rana’s portrayal of Ravana was widely applauded, while other artistes brought various characters from the Ramayana to life. The production combined dialogue, music, visuals and stagecraft to create an emotional and spiritual atmosphere.

The minister said, “The state government is committed to taking the eternal message of Sanatan Dharma to the people through the historical epic, the Ramayana.”

“The Bhagwant Mann government is making every possible effort to ensure that such programmes bring the teachings of Sanatan Dharma closer to the people and inspire the younger generation to adopt these eternal values,” he added.

Directed by Gaurav Bhardwaj and produced by Felicity Theatre, ‘Hamare Ram’ is based on the Ramayana and presents the life and ideals of Lord Ram in a contemporary theatrical format.
