Roadmap laid out for a Drug-Free India Campaign

Four pillars include intelligence-based action, drug control and demand reduction

The Union Home Ministry and Ministry of Information and Broadcasting held a media interaction in Shimla on the Drug-Free India Campaign 2029, outlining a three-year roadmap with four pillars, 25 components and more than 200 action points.

ADG (PIB) Raj Kumar and NCB Zonal Director Amanjeet Singh were the main speakers at the programme, where details of the campaign and efforts undertaken so far were shared.

Under the campaign, a time-bound roadmap has been prepared for 2026-29. Its four main pillars are intelligence and operation-based action, control of chemical and synthetic drugs, demand and harm reduction, and capacity building and coordination.

NCB Zonal Director Amanjeet Singh said action against drugs had been taken forward from the files to a national campaign since 2019. He said a four-tier NCORD system and Anti-Narcotics Task Forces (ANTFs) had been established in all states in 2019.

The presentation stated that, compared with 2004-2013, the quantity of drugs seized had increased 4.6 times, the value of seizures had risen 4.7 times and the quantity of drugs destroyed had increased 14.4 times.

The Home Ministry’s targets under the campaign include having fully equipped ANTFs in every state by March 2027 and making forensic reports available within 30 days.

The campaign also aims to prepare one lakh ‘Nasha Mukt Mitras’ through the NCC, the NSS and MY Bharat and make school and college campuses drug-free.
