Two properties were reportedly being developed with space for artist residencies

Actor Vikrant Massey was reportedly set to bring Musafir Cafe into real-life spaces, with two cafes planned in Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand, where construction was already underway and around 20 rooms were proposed for artist residencies.

The project was being developed through Massey’s production house, Homemade Stories. The cafes were planned as replicas of the establishment featured in the Netflix series, intended to recreate its look in the hill locations.

In Musafir Cafe, Massey played Chander, whose character moved to the hills while trying to build a new life. The cafe became an important part of his journey in the series.

The series was partly shot at Jharipani Castle in Mussoorie, which served as the location for the cafe shown on screen. The proposed properties were expected to draw from that setting rather than merely carry the series’ name.

The properties also planned around 20 rooms as artist-residency spaces. The concept also carried over into the series, which explored the idea of turning a homestay into a space for artists and people seeking a change in their lives.

Based on Divya Prakash Dubey’s novel, Musafir Cafe starred Massey alongside Vedika Pinto and Mahima Makwana.

Massey made his production debut with the series, which he co-produced through Homemade Stories. He had described the project as a natural extension of his desire to tell simple but impactful stories.
