Rakhra gets organisational charge of constituency represented by Chetan Singh Jauramajra

The Aam Aadmi Party on Thursday appointed former minister Surjit Singh Rakhra as halqa in-charge of Samana, giving him organisational responsibility for the constituency ahead of the upcoming Punjab Assembly elections.

The appointment is significant because Samana is currently represented by AAP MLA Chetan Singh Jauramajra, who has also served as a cabinet minister in the Punjab government. Rakhra’s appointment follows his induction into the AAP and the subsequent role he was given in the constituency. The latest decision formally places him in charge of the party’s organisational activities in Samana.

The development has also drawn attention to Jauramajra’s position within the party. However, appointing a halqa in-charge does not, by itself, declare someone an election candidate.

Jauramajra is the sitting MLA from Samana and has been associated with the AAP since its earlier phase. He has also held a cabinet portfolio in the state government. Rakhra, active in Punjab politics for several years, previously served as a minister and has a political base in Samana. His entry into the AAP had already generated political interest in the constituency.

With Rakhra now formally named the halqa in-charge, the party’s organisational structure in Samana has undergone a significant change. His role is expected to involve coordinating party activities and strengthening the organisation at the constituency level.

The latest appointment has fuelled discussion over the AAP’s plans for Samana in the next Assembly election. However, the party has not, through this appointment, formally announced Rakhra as its candidate from the constituency.

The development comes as political activity begins to take shape ahead of the Punjab Assembly elections, with the AAP strengthening its organisational arrangements in Samana.
