Fresh snowfall in higher reaches, rain in Manali bring a sharp nip in the air

A wintry chill returned to Manali as Rohtang Pass and other high-altitude areas received the season’s first snowfall on Thursday, while rain lashed the region and adjoining lower areas, bringing down temperatures.

Rain continued in Manali through the morning, with the change in weather becoming more pronounced across the higher reaches. Fresh snow at Rohtang Pass also added a distinctly winter-like touch to the landscape.

Tourism stakeholder Rajesh Sharma said the rainfall and drop in temperatures had brought a noticeable change in the valley. He said the first snowfall in the higher reaches could give a boost to tourism-related activity as the season progresses.

Tourists from Mumbai visiting Manali also experienced the sudden change in weather. They said they had visited Rohtang Pass a day earlier and were impressed by the landscape.

For the visitors, the weather added to the experience of a trip they had long looked forward to, with the rain and chill offering a different side of Manali in September.
